How often should oil in a transformer (say 0.5 to 5MVA) be changed?
1. How can you tell whe it is time to change it?
2. What is the approx. cost to build a new one in that size range? Is there a relationship for cost v. size?
3. How long does it take to build one these days? I hear that steel is hard to get beacuse of the chinese building lots of plants.
4. When is it easier and practical to rebuild one? What do they rebuild inside and why?
Thanks.
Any rule-of-thumb conversion factors for comparing chromoly to steel.?
We have several components of a machine we’re building that need to be strong (they are currently steel), but need to be much lighter.
We’re considering chromoly for these, but we want to be able to quickly compare what this will cost us and we’d like some quick "rules of thumb" when calculating equivilant chromoly materials. For example, what thickness of chromoly sheeting would compare with 1/8 inch steel? Or what thickness chromoly tube would we need to order to give comparable strength to 1/2 inch schedule 40 steel?
Any help or conversion websites would be appreciated.
Thanks.
how much would it cost to buy a?
-600 acres of land
-build a steel wall 30 feet high, 15 feet deep, 10 feet thick
-cover the steel wall with cement, adding another 5 feet in height, depth, and thickness
-the only way to get in the fenced area is through a steel door that is just as thick and tall, and slides open to the left
-the land has to be absolutely free of any type of structure…weather it be a building, shed, or even a tree
-this is in wisconsin, united states
-and paid by cash
-this is just a question. i am not saying i have the money lol i am just wondering how much you think it would cost to do such a thing

Building a hockey net/goal?
Hi
So I was wondering if anyone here could direct me to a website with instructions on building a steel hockey goal. All the guides I have seen are for PVC pipe goals, which I imagine would shatter under the weight of a puck.
I have several friends who are tradesmen, one being a welder by trade so they have the technical knowhow. I am just searching for a blueprint or instructions on how to build a steel regulation size goal
Cheers
p.s I am from Australia, and there are no local distributors to buy a goal from, so ordering one online would cost too much to ship
Building a trailer and need some tips and prices on metal?
I just picked up a 4×8′ trailer frame with axle and wheels off craigslist for . It needs a new deck, and tires. I plan on reinforcing the frame a little. I got it to haul 2 dirtbikes I have. The problem is, the frame is built off the axle, and the trailer is pretty low to the ground, our driveway is steep and would never make it. I am not going to cut the little axle out just to try and raise it, since its welded to the fram of the trailer.
I have a spare Chevy s10 rear end, 2 Cragar Soft 8 steel wheels, and a set of leafsprings and tires. I want to use that for the trailer. Though I might have to notch the frame a tad to clear the tires.
I want to run square tube from one side to the other, where the mounting locations for the leaf springs will be. Then make some leaf spring hangers.
Sooo what i need to know is
How much would a piece of 2"x2"x8′ long piece of square steel tube cost thats about 1/8" thick??
How much will a piece of angle iron cost thats 2.5" x 8′ long??
How much is pressure treated 2×8 wood for the deck??
ANy tips on making this cheap, like using wood B instead of A
What is the best way (cheapest) to buy steel I beams?

how much does it cost to build a hull?
I have to find a rough estimate of what it would cost to build a hull. Aluminum or steel is fine. Here are some details: 120 ft x 25 ft overall, about 60 ft of the stern is just a long deck, and the bow is three decks, two above the waterline and one below. In the middle of the boat there is a large tuna tower that sort of separates the two halves. I have some rough cad drawings if you need more detail.
When I say rough estimate I mean rough estimate, I’m not sure if it’d cost ,000 or ,000,000 so anything in the ballpark is fine.
I know what a full size completed boat costs. To be clear: just the hull. Not anything else. The metal part of the boat. Thanks for the answers but I’m looking for just the hull not a finished boat.
